Ministry of Foreign Affairs & IR Department initiate a study center for santri diplomacy

On November 16, 2023, following a diplomatic practice by Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials at the Centre of Diplomacy, Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Building, the Department of International Relations together with the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs initiated a plan to establish a study center for santri diplomacy on campus to improve diplomacy skills for international relations students and santri in Jember Regency.

According to AntaraNews, a lecturer of International Relations of Jember University, Mr. Honest Dody Molasy, explained that so far there has been communication between the campus and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the plan to establish a study center for santri diplomacy/Islamic diplomacy. Mr. Honest added that the idea of the diplomacy study center was sparked because of the large number of santri and pesantren located in Jember Regency, so it is hoped that it can foster diplomacy knowledge to them.

So far, he continued, the plan to establish the study center has received support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the International Network Development Agency under the auspices of the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU).

Mr. Honest explained that the study center for santri diplomacy study can provide skills for IR students to learn diplomacy in an Islamic manner and not only learn diplomacy in general from the literature of western countries.
