M. Rayhan Hanif, a student of International Relations, won the 3rd place in Scientific Writing Competition (LKTI) "Attraction 2023" organized by Brawijaya University. This year, Call For Paper Attraction 2023 raised the theme "Sustainable Development Innovation in Optimizing Networking Governance to Realize ASEAN Vision 2025".
Rayhan's research was about environmental problems in Grenden village, located in Puger sub-district, Jember.
In writing the paper, Rayhan was assisted by his colleagues, Maulana Garaudy Purnomo and Biki Ramadhani from the Geography Education Department, University of Jember.
The ability of Rayhan in analyzing the existing situation and combined with the geographical knowledge of his colleagues resulted in the idea of combining Remote sensing methods and Ecological Governance Principles.
The results showed that the permit for the cement company in Grenden village did not follow the UNDP's Ecological Governance principles. They also found negative impacts such as the depletion of karst mountains and reduced water sources.
